In June 2018, the unemployment rate rose 0.2 percentage point to 4.0 percent, and the number of people who were unemployed was 6.6 million. The jobless rate was 3.8 percent in May 2018.

Our fellow Americans have been unemployed long-term and struggle to find jobs that match their existing skill set. Likewise, many employers in a range of industries and sectors say they cannot find skilled workers to fill their current job openings and grow their businesses.

There is no doubt that a skills gap exists in today's workforce, and economists and policymakers both agree that the solution to this problem is education and training. The Learning Zone, Inc. is dedicated to providing the utmost training and the development of a skill set that directly correlates to the job market. We also understand that the development of a skill set can begin before high school graduation, thus the development of our after-school program "INSIGHT Learning" and our ABE classes. 

 

While workforce development opportunities are ideal for the unemployed, as well as those searching for a stable and living wage. It is vital that our students are both exposed to and aware of workforce opportunities BEFORE leaving high school.
